A Bored Mom’s Conversation with ChatGPT

Conversations with ChatGPT

I had writer’s block yesterday, and today, well, I was just so bored. So, I thought I’d play around with ChatGPT. I asked it what it does when it’s bored, knowing full well what it would say. Come on, it’s an AI; it doesn’t get bored.

So, what could I do to beat my boredom? At first, ChatGPT didn’t suggest anything super interesting, but eventually, it got my brain gears moving.

I know every mom (okay, even non-moms) gets this boredom. So, I want to share what I did with ChatGPT to shake off my boredom. Maybe you’ll find it useful too!

The Choices I Was Given

I was bored and lonely, and since social media is a no-go for me now, I fired up ChatGPT and told it how I was feeling. Like a true friend, it gave me some options. It reminded me of my bestie, who always knows how to lift my spirits.

ChatGPT suggested a quick game, a short story, or maybe some trivia to kill time. I wasn’t in the mood to think, so trivia it was.

I even debated one of the trivia facts, like I was talking to a buddy I wanted to annoy for fun.

After two trivia questions, ChatGPT checked in to see if I wanted to continue or try something new. I was curious and switched it up—jokes.

Honestly, ChatGPT’s jokes weren’t that funny. I even gave it some joke-telling tips 😂.

I even made a bitter analogy of my life with one of its jokes, saying how my life is like a math book—full of problems.

As if on cue, ChatGPT would routinely ask if I wanted to keep going or switch activities after every two jokes. “Philosophical Questions” on the newly updated list of options piqued my interest. I figured, why not give my brain a little workout? So, I selected it, and—presto—my boredom was finally vanquished.

#Answering Philosophical Questions with ChatGPT

The philosophical inquiries stirred my mind into action, eventually inspiring me to pen this article.

Engaging with these deep questions took me on a nostalgic trip back to my university years, when my friends and I would delve into debates that had no definitive answers—because, well, they were philosophical in nature.

ChatGPT kicked off our philosophical journey with an intriguing question about the nature of reality and existence.

The first question was a breeze, but the second one presented a moral conundrum that my kids would find fascinating. It’s the kind of topic that could easily send me spiraling down a rabbit hole of endless debate. Thankfully, my lingering boredom saved me from getting entirely caught up in that intricate web of argumentation.

The conversation continued with a slew of philosophical inquiries, revving my brain into high gear. We even wrapped things up with a foray into conversing in Filipino.

#At the End of the Day, AI’s a Friend

One of the benefits of engaging with AI is its inability to take offense; it remains unflappable regardless of what you say. The flip side is its perpetual agreeableness, which can drain the fun out of a spirited debate—unless you relentlessly lob new points at it.

This exercise revealed a useful feature of ChatGPT: it can act as an emotionless confidant when your go-to human friend is unavailable and you’d prefer not to risk upsetting less understanding companions. Sometimes, the absence of emotional baggage in a conversation is just what you need.

Just so you know, I even used ChatGPT to create the banner image for this article.
