Soundcore A20i Review: The ₱600 Earbuds My Kids Actually Like (and Don’t Break in a Week)

Soundcore by Anker A20i Review

If you’re a mom with kids who love music, you already know how it goes with their earphones: they lose them, break them, or forget them at school.

And somehow, it becomes our problem.

So when my daughter—and her little brother—started talking about the Soundcore by Anker A20i, I got curious. At around ₱600, it still feels like a painful purchase (because let’s be honest, anything that kids can misplace feels painful), but not in the same league as AirPods, Samsung, JBL, and other big brands.

So I thought, okay, let’s see if this one survives longer than three weeks.

As it turned out, it’s not your typical budget pair that gives up early.

After letting my daughter use these every day, here’s the real review from a household that has gone through more earphones than umbrellas during rainy season.

Why She Wanted the A20i

My daughter first heard about it from me (though I actually got the tip from her little brother), and she later noticed that several of her classmates were already using it. They we said the same thing: “Maliit, magaan, astig ang tunog, tapos may app pa.”

She bought her pair using her own savings (this girl knows how to budget). She went for the black one because it matches everything and doesn’t look dirty easily. Shopee delivery took just two days—quick and hassle-free.

I actually got a pair for myself even before she did. I bought it at the recommendation of my son, and I was honestly impressed by the sound quality.

Comfort and Design: Pang-whole day talaga

My daughter has tiny ears, so most earbuds fall out. The A20i comes with multiple ear tip sizes, and once she switched to the bigger silicon tips, they stayed snug even when she was moving around.

The case is small enough to keep in her pocket. And moms, let me say this loudly: She has dropped the case so many times, I’m shocked it’s still alive.

Walang gasgas, walang bitak. If your kids are clumsy, this already gets points.

Now for my personal experience—I didn’t find it comfortable for sleeping. I’m the type who sleeps with earbuds on while listening to binaural beats or crime documentaries (yes, that’s my lullaby). But the A20i isn’t ideal for this. After two nights of sleeping with them, my ears started to hurt.

For daytime use, though, no issues at all. It stays in place even when I bend, move around, or do chores.

Sound Quality: Better than what you expect for ₱600

The surprise for my daughter is the Soundcore app. You can adjust the sound using presets—including a BassUp mode.

In her words: “The clarity is so good I can hear breathing sounds in videos.”

Also… she watched a horror clip once with these on. She regrets it.

That tells you everything about the sound.

For calls and class meetings, it’s clear.

For games? She plays Baldur’s Gate 3 and Hogwarts Legacy on it—no noticeable delay.

For me, the best part is the bass—which is usually the weak point of cheap earbuds. With A20i, it’s full and noticeable. You can feel that little thump in your chest, and it doesn’t sound hollow the way other budget earphones do.

Connectivity and Controls: Super simple

Pairing is instant. Reconnecting is also automatic.

My daughter also uses Single Earbud Mode often because she likes keeping one ear open while walking outside.

And the touch controls? She set everything on the app—volume, skip, pause—so she doesn’t even need to touch her phone.

(Kung gaano kabilis sila mag-change ng song pag may bad vibes, ganon kabilis.)

Battery Life: Ito na ang pinaka-sulit

This is where the A20i beats every cheap earbud we’ve ever bought:

  • One charge = 2 weeks to almost a month (depending on use)
  • A 10-minute charge gives around 2 hours
  • A 30-minute top-up lasted her 3 days

She charges so rarely that she forgets where she put the charger.

And yes—this lines up with my own experience. Mine lasts a long time too. For something this small and this affordable, the battery performance is impressive.

Durability: Hindi siya maarte

Here’s the real mom test:

  • Naulanan once — survived after leaving it on a table to dry (outside the case). You can try the rice method, but I didn’t risk it.
  • Nahulog — many times, still alive.
  • Nastep-an once — still working
  • Overcharged — no issues
  • Used daily for school, condo, commute — still good

Honestly, I’ve seen pricier earbuds crack with less abuse.

Mic and Noise Control

The mic works fine, not perfect, but better than most budget earbuds. The AI noise reduction helps during jeep or street noise—not totally quiet, but good enough that she can tune out strangers trying to talk to her.

As for me, I can’t comment much on the mic performance because I don’t really use the A20i for calls or meetings. I only use it for listening, and for that purpose, it does the job well.

Is It Worth Buying for Your Kids?

Yes.
For ₱600+, this is an easy recommendation for moms who:

  • want something reliable for school or travel
  • don’t want to keep replacing broken earphones
  • need a budget-friendly Christmas or birthday gift
  • have kids who want “nice-looking” earbuds but you’re not ready to spend ₱3k to ₱10k

My daughter’s favorite part? “The tap controls. Super convenient.”

But she said if she could change one thing, maybe a better mic—but honestly, you’re already getting a lot for the price.

But keep in mind—at the end of the day, it’s still a wireless earbud, and yes, still very easy to lose. My son actually took mine because he already lost two of his.

On that note, the price almost doesn’t matter. You can buy the cheapest pair or the most expensive one with amazing sound, and kids will still misplace them.

So you still need to think about your child’s habits.
Do your kids always lose their earbuds?
Do they only lose them sometimes?
Or are they generally careful?

Consider these things first before deciding if a ₱600 pair is something you’re willing to gift. Because let’s be honest—₱600 isn’t pocket change. That’s still about an hour of work for many moms, and watching a pair disappear after a week would sting.

Final Verdict (Mom Version)

If your kid has a habit of losing or breaking earbuds, or if you simply want something decent without spending too much, the Soundcore A20i is a practical buy.

It’s sturdy, easy to use, has great battery life, and works well for music, videos, and school.

For the price, you’re getting more value than expected.
