5 Most disturbing (if not the scariest) K-Drama villains

There are villains, and there are the utterly disturbing villains who would make you either go kill them yourself or run far far away from them. Here are five of the really disturbing (if not the scariest) K-drama villains I’ve seen.

Kim Jang Hyun (Jang Mi Kwan) “Strong Woman Do Bong Soon”

It’s just wrong to make handsome men psychopaths. It’s all too confusing! You don’t know whether to hate them or to love them. 

Kim Jang Hyun is one guy whom you’ll trust only to end up being killed by him. His lovely face easily covers up for his evil obsession for a bride. 

I read somewhere long ago that Kim Jang Hyun is Jang Mi Kwan’s first-ever drama role. Hands down to this hot guy for portraying Kim Jang Hyun so effectively. 

Ryu Tae-Oh (Lee Joon) “Gap Dong”

Unlike how I typically react to other villains (I stop watching because I can’t breathe), I did not want to stop watching Ryu Tae-Oh. More than being disturbed by his cold-heartedness and lack of concept of love, I am fascinated by his intelligence. He is an intelligent psychopath. He does not just go for the kill. He has a process, and I guess this is what makes him disturbing.

He also sees Gap Dong as his “God.” He mimics Gap Dong’s murders. However, the irony, ultimately, is that he dies in the hands of the real Gap Dong. This incident reminds me of what I heard from another series (I think that was The Mentalist, can’t remember the show) about serial killers hating being copied; it’s like an insult. 

Mo Tae Goo (Kim Jae Wook) “Voice”

Mo Tae Goo is creepy. He is charismatic that one could not help liking him, or worse, trusting him. He is also one of those guys whom you’ll trust but will end up killing you. This guy is heartless!

Kim Jae Wook did well in giving life to Mo Tae Goo. His good looks and strong facial features make for a perfect, charismatic psychopath. I hated his evil Mo Tae Goo as much as I loved his faithful Noh Sun-ki in Coffee Prince.   

Choi Tae Ho (Choi Tae Joon) “Missing 9”

When I find the villain so disturbing, sometimes I can’t continue watching a series. For Missing 9, I had to drop it for a while, and return to watching it after I don’t feel mad at the villain anymore. 

I remember wanting to go to Korea to hurt Choi Tae-ho, only to remember that he’s fictional. That’s how insanely disturbing and annoying this character is. 

Choi Tae-ho is the former drummer of Dreamer (the name of the band in the drama). He hates Yeo Joon-oh, the leader of the band. Somehow, he believes Yeo Joon-oh is responsible for why they disbanded. Still, Choi Tae-ho becomes an actor and continues to be famous, so he shouldn’t be jealous of the fallen star Yeo Joon-oh, but he is. What’s scary about Choi Tae-ho is that he turns stories around that people tend to believe him. He is also very arrogant, selfish, and calculating. Worse, he is supposed to be friends with the victims. 

The look on his face is also particularly annoying! I just can’t believe it’s Choi Tae-Joon!

Hwang Deuk Goo (Park Sung Woong) “Rugal”

If Park Sung Woong’s Yeo Woon Gwang in Man to Man made me want to go to Korea to hug him, Hwang Deuk-goo made me want never to go. This character tops my scariest villain list. 

Park Sung Woong said in a press conference that he portrayed Hwang Deuk-goo in such a way that one wouldn’t want to be in the same room as him. He did well in making Hwang Deuk Goo be that way. Who would want to be in the same room as a crazy trigger-happy cyborg. Yes, I’d call him a cyborg because (SPOILER ALERT!) he turns out to be the first Argos experiment. Yes, he is crazy too: it’s like his solution to everything is to beat up someone or pull the trigger!

I had to watch Rugal irregularly because I had to overcome my fear and hatred of this villain before I could go on.
