The coronavirus pandemic must be bringing out the creativity in kids. I recently came across articles about teens and kids inventing things during the pandemic. These items are not toys, but useful ones that could ease the struggles of some people during the pandemic.
Let’s look into these amazingly smart kids and their inventions.
High school girls create portable and cheap ventilator
A group of seven high school girls from Afghanistan invented a cheaper ventilator model. Their creation could only cost 700 US dollars. That is way way lower than the 20,000 US dollars worth of ventilator at present.
Good News Network reports that certain areas in Afghanistan have very limited numbers of ventilators. This girls’ ventilator could help thousands of COVID-19 patients in Afghanistan.
These girls are members of the Afghan Robotics Team in Herat City. They have participated several international competitions and brought home recognitions.
12-year-old boy invents social awareness machine
Keashon created a machine that promotes social distancing. In a video that his dad posted on Twitter, Keashon explains how the Social Awareness Machine or S.A.M. works.
It apparently beeps when it senses something within six feet. He did a demo with his father, and the built-in sensor system works fine.
Keashon built the entire machine from scratch. His aim is to make sure people will keep their distance especially in public places from others to avoid spreading the coronavirus.

9-year-old boy invents handwashing maching
Stephen Wamukota from Kenya built a machine that will help make handwashing safer and more convenient.
Stephen made a machine with some pieces of wood that his father brought home. It operates using a foot pedal to dispense soap. There is a separete pedal for water. The device limits the transmission of the virus since users need not touch soap bottles and faucets.
The idea may also be applied to hand sanitizers.
The Kenyan president acknowledged Stephen’s contribution to the community by giving him the Presidential Order of Service Uzalendo (Patriotic) Award.
